About the project
Editorial policy
What we promise, and what we don’t.
Sources
We check claims about certifications, trademarks, standards, legislation, history and figures against primary or authoritative sources: the texts of legislation (EUR-Lex), the websites of the organisations that run certifications, museum and university records, and publications from specialist institutions. We list our sources at the end of every article.
If we cannot verify something, we don’t write it. We would rather publish a shorter piece or mark a topic as “in preparation”.
Generally known technical principles (what plain weave looks like, for example) are given without a specific source, but they must be correct.
Dates
Every article shows the date it was last updated and the date we last checked its sources. For data that changes (the cotton varieties grown in a given season, for example), we give the date right next to the figure.
Ratings
The ratings in the fabric passports and the comparison are relative editorial tendencies, not measurements. The process is described in our methodology.
Independence
We have no advertising, sponsored articles or affiliate links. Nobody pays us to be mentioned.
What we don’t claim
We do not have an editorial team of experts or external expert review. The content is prepared by FALA, which is responsible for it.
Corrections
We correct errors and record significant corrections. The process is described on the Corrections page.
